Chamonix, France, 27th August 2021 – Katie Schide took the biggest win of her career today, taking victory at UTMB 2022, placing 1st woman and 22nd overall.

Katie improved upon her two previous top 10 finishes with a stunning run that showcased her incredible speed and endurance. Coming out on top of a cat and mouse race that saw her battling hard with Canadian athlete Marianne Hogan.

With huge crowds lining the 171km course, Katie’s rapid start saw her open an early lead, racing hard into the night. Yet by morning, her early lead had evaporated, with Marianne working hard and reeling her in, before opening a lead of her own.

However, as they entered the final 30km, Katie had recovered the ground with nothing to split the two incredible athletes.

As the race looked to go to the wire, Katie made the decisive move, breaking away from Marianne to take a 20-minute lead out of Vallorcine and run hard into Chamonix to claim her maiden title – to the delight of the incredible crowds.

For Katie, the race of her life and the win of her career is about much more than the 171kms and 10,000m elevation covered:

“What a feeling! It’s so much more than the race, it’s the training, the hours planning, the support, the crowd, everything matters, and everything makes the difference. I just can’t believe it”

Katie wore The North Face ‘Elvira’ Flight Series pack, alongside a range of VECTIV™ prototypes - coming to market next year. The Full VECTIV™ range is available for purchase in select specialty run shops and available at thenorthface.com.
