While winter still holds much of Europe in its icy grip, late February conditions on Gran Canaria are altogether different.
This time of year signals the arrival of trail runners from across the world to compete in the classic season-opener: Transgrancanaria.

With routes that criss-cross the island, the event hosts seven races starting with the Vertical Kilometre and finishing with the 126km Classic Race – the ultimate test of end-to-end endurance.

In 2024, thousands of runners from over 50 countries took part, among them members of The North Face Athlete Team. Featuring a mix of previous TGC winners and debutants, our team posted impressive results throughout the week.

Kicking things off in Wednesday’s Vertical Kilometre Race, Katie Schide and Henri Aymonod brought home a double victory with first place in both the women’s and men’s categories. Katie set a new course record 47 minutes, 31 seconds, while her teammates Lena Laukner and Fernanda Maciel weren’t far behind in second and sixth.

TGC debutant Brittany Charboneau followed up with a strong second place in Thursday’s 21km Starter Race and on Friday, Jennifer Lichter went one better in the 46km Marathon Race, taking the win on the course packed with elevation in time of 04:18:09.

And the team wasn’t done there. Over the weekend, Tara Fraga took out the women’s Advanced Race, covering the 84km course in 09:38:37, while her teammate Stephanie Howe came home in a creditable seventh place.

In the blue riband Classic Race, The North Face Athlete Team was well represented, particularly in the men’s category. Starting at midnight and racing through the night, Zach Miller, Jiasheng Shen and Josh Wade all posted top 10 finishes on Sunday to round out a hugely successful week for the team.

Congratulations to everyone on The North Face Athlete and Explorer Teams,
and to everyone who took part in Transgrancanaria 2024.
